THE T-SHIRT REVIVAL

No closet is complete without a cute t-shirt.  My go-to t-shirts are always band t-shirts.  What can I say?  I play in a band. I am a fan of music.  I like to keep things creative and simple.  I don’t like to over think my outfits.  I like to stick to strong basics that can be transitioned from day to night.  I love a cool t-shirt, pants and my go-to sneakers or dressing it up with some heels for a night out.

ON THAT NOTE, LET’S TALK ABOUT CUTTING TEES

The next time you come across a cool T-shirt and a creative mood hits you, grab a pair of scissors and see what a little imagination can do!

It’s a great way to revive old t-shirts. Start out simple and turn a basic T-shirt into a cute one with just a few cuts. As you get more comfortable, unleash your inner “Edward Scissorhands”.
Start at the neck, slowly cutting around the neck line. Move on to the sleeves. I like to cut the sleeves off altogether to show off my tattoos but if you want to keep the T-shirt look, you can leave the sleeves. Finally, cut a little off the bottom. Generally speaking, shorter is better. However, you don’t want your T-shirt turning into a midriff.  Take about one to two inches off.

When you are comfortable making basic cuts to your tees, expand your cutting to intricate custom designs.  I like to cut slits across and then braiding them down the whole shirt.  It’s super simple.  It just takes practice.

If you are still not feeling too brave, come down to the art show this weekend at Authentic Roots Tattoo.  Bring your t-shirts and I will show you how to cut them!  I talked about the art show in last week’s post.  You can read all about it here.  Stop by, meet artists at the tattoo shop and let me design a shirt for you!
