La Casa Azul is The Frida Kahlo museum in Coyoacán, Mexico City. The house was Frida's lifelong home. This is where she was born, lived and died. I am a huge fan of art and this museum does an amazing job at portraying Frida Khalo and Diego Rivera's life. If you are ever in the neighborhood, this is a must see!
I recently visited La Casa Azul with the Road Dogs TV crew. We flew out to Mexico City and spent one whole day in the neighborhood of Coyoacán. We took the metro from our hotel in La Zona Rosa to Coyoacán and then walked to La Casa Azul. It was easy getting there. We just followed the street signs.
While we were in the metro, the cutest thing happened. A little girl saw Gerardo and was amazed. She couldn't hold back and yelled at him "una rola!". A "rola" means a song. The little girl was asking G to sing her a song. It was adorable. She also asked for autographs!

Once we got to the museum we had to wait in line to get in. We went on a Sunday so the line was pretty long. It was about an hour wait, but totally worth it. The house is amazing and very well maintained. The central garden is beautiful and very peaceful.
We got to see a special exhibit of Frida's dresses. The exhibit also showcased the corsets, body braces and prosthetics she wore under her clothing. I was surprised to see how much her style has inspired so many designers. I really liked the fashion collections inspired by Frida.

The main museum houses Frida's drawings, paintings and photos. This is the main house. We walked around her living room, dining room, kitchen and her art studio.
Frida's house was everything that I expected. I am so glad we were able to visit. I love that she never gave up on life. I love that she was strong no matter how hard her life was. I really loved all of the Aztec and pre-Columbian art pieces throughout the garden and the house.
If you are a fan of Frida you have to go to her house. You will leave with so much knowledge about her art and her life. You will leave feeling inspired.
VIVA LA VIDA!
