A TRIP TO LACMA TO SEE THE MONSTERS!

Visiting LACMA is always a good idea.  LACMA is located on the Miracle Mile on Wilshire Boulevard in L.A.  It is the largest art museum in the western U.S.  I first had the opportunity to visit LACMA when I was in college.  I took a pre-Columbian art history class (you can read more about that here) and had to write a paper on Aztec sculpture.  It may come as a surprise to some but LACMA has a whole building dedicated to the art of the ancient Americas.  I was blown away by the colorful galleries and the amount of ceramic sculptures that I saw.  I have been back many times since.   These galleries never get old.  I also love walking the grounds.  It's a great place to hang out and explore.

This time, we were there for the Guillermo Del Toro exhibit "At Home with Monsters".  When I heard this exhibit was happening at LACMA I rounded up the troops and headed out for a day at the museum.

We are big fans for Guillermo Del Toro.  Pan's Labyrinth is one of my favorite movies.  The exhibit featured drawings, personal items, sculptures, paintings, prints, photography, costumes, ancient artifacts, books, and film.  When we got to the exhibit, the line was out the door and around the corner!

So we took our time and visited the other galleries for a bit...

It took a while before we got in, but let me tell you, it was worth the wait!!!

“The real monsters in our lives are in fancy tailored suits.  There’s nothing more scary than people that are profoundly ignorant and profoundly certain. They always go together.”      -Guillermo Del Toro
