FASHION FUN AT THE RENAISSANCE PLEASURE FAIRE

I finally had the chance to visit the Renaissance Faire.  Can you believe the Renaissance faire has been around since the 60's?  I had no idea.  The faire usually happens from April thru May every year.  It is located on the Santa Fe Dam Recreation Area in Irwindale, California.   It was kind of a drive from Long Beach, but totally worth it.

My friend Yazmin has been working at the faire for a while now and she loves it.  It's like going back in time to Elizabethan England with stages, performers, costumes, actors, music, food and drinks.  It's like a big open air market where you can find all kinds of things true to the time period such as clothing, accessories, leather goods, gowns, tools, hand made jewelry and period art work.  I am really glad we finally got to check it out.  It was also nice to have Yazmin there to show us around.

It came as a total surprise because G left to go to Authentic Roots Tattoo at noon.  Two hours later he came back home with Ben and Jesse, picked me up, and we drove to Irwindale.  It was kind of a long drive from Long Beach, but totally worth it.

Yazmin was already there since she had to work that day but we got there at the perfect time because she got off work at 4:00 p.m., and spent the rest of the day hanging out with us and showing us around.  She knows everyone at the faire.  They are like a big huge family.  She introduced us to all her friends as we walked around.  We also met a lot of other visitors and took pictures.  There is no dress code, so Renaissance-inspired costumes are not required, but they are encouraged.   We walked around drinking beers and mingling until we found a Hookah tent where we took a smoke break.

Stopped by Don Juan to say Hello.

Took pictures with these two beauties dressed in Renaissance gear.

Ben, Jesse and G took a picture with this guy who wore a vest and mask made of metal can pop-tops.

The cutest little bird!

After the break we went on to try our luck at Archery.  It was fun but a little hard cause I was a little tipsy.  Thanks to Yaz we scored a bunch of arrows so we were there for a while.  So much fun!

By the way, we were there to take pictures of everyone and check out their outfits.  Turns out people wanted to take our pictures and check out our outfits.  We got so many compliments about our "look".  Apparently the faire is also very fashion-forward and the theme that weekend was cosplay (costume-play).  We even got asked if we were a gang.  Like Vikings or something.  Jesse's answer:  "Yes, we are HTTH".

Impromptu photo shoot.

Finally, we made it to the Food Court. There, we met up with another friend, Sean, who also works at faire and he joined us for a late lunch.   I had the fish and chips.  The guys had the calamari.  And for dessert, we tried the bacon chocolate covered cheesecake.  So delicious!

Lunch break and Beer!
Late lunch with Sean.

Fish and chips.  Bacon and chocolate covered cheesecake!

All in all, we had an amazing time.  My favorite part was definitely the people watching and just seeing how involved people get.  Both the actors and the visitors never break character.  It was fun and I can't wait to go back next year!!

I love my life!
